...or so says a jury in LA. Shocking, I know. But Apple seems to have somehow dodged this bullet. Whew!

This guy shoulda brought his case in East Texas. Juries will buy just about any story there.

That "reporter" should be fired. Did he actually write a story or just the headline and byline?

I think it's spare because it's breaking news. I don't see any other articles mentioning the verdict yet.

True. Isn't that where the patent troll NPE funded by Apple is suing Google, Samsung, etc.

Rushing to be first to print is not an excuse for being ill written and lacking substance.

Tough case for the plaintiff since the IBM Simon predates 1997.

Edit: In fact, the Nokia 9000 communicator also predates the 1997 patent.

Huh, not sure what happened to my post. Totally garbled. If you prefer PAE, that's fine. Trolling still stinks. Microsoft has long operated with such disregard, but I was shocked when Apple jumped onboard the Lodsys, SCO, and similar business plan.

I would think we agree that the smartphone inventor plaintiff had long odds as smart phones predated his patent. I'm confused by this case. Which PAE was funding it?

My point is that the consortium you're referring to is not a patent troll. As the article I cited stated, "Generally not considered patent trolls are NPEs such as…licensing agents that offer enforcement and negotiation services on behalf of patent owners."
