[car parts] A long shot: Anyone familiar with trunk strut lift makers? - deckeda - 11-26-2013

A few years ago I replaced worn out trunk struts on the '94 Accord. Got Monroes. A name brand, right? I started this journey again because one of the Monroes leaked and stopped working.

And they never worked as well as OEM. Harder to lift the trunk lid while also harder to shut the trunk. An engineering feat if ever there was one.

I saw a similar comment left on Amazon for the "StrongArm" brand. I'm perhaps starting to understand why the OEM struts are like $77 apiece ...

Anyway, at another online retailer I see brands like FEQ, Stabilus, PartsMaster. No doubt there are others. Does it matter?

I've always gone to Advance and just bought what was in stock for tailgate or hood lifts. Worked fine.

I think my junkyard days are behind me. It was a fun place to look for old stuff like Quadrajets and Q-Jet secondary rods, hangers and jets. Back in the '80s. But not for old and worn struts. Hope springs eternal here.

Yeah I'll probably aim to not overthink this.

I've used aftermarket with no problems. don't buy used.

In cases like this I have two strategies.

1) Buy the cheapest with the longest warranty,
2) Buy OEM.

I have had good luck with FCP in the past. These struts should fit and are $23 each:

And they have a lifetime warranty: http://www.fcpimport.com/page/lifetime-guarantee

Or, spend $150 on OEM.

EDIT: I am not affiliated with FCP, those are not affiliate links. Just passing along info.

OK I'll give FCP a shot on this, for the Stabilus struts. Thanks guys.
