No contract --- it'll only be used a few times a year, and must be able to do 3G. In fact, if it's "only" 3G that'd be OK as well.

Not what you need, but I've got a Virgin Mobile Mifi with a kinda dead battery that I can mail you.

That uses the Sprint network? The only network available where we're going is Verizon.

Why does Mi-Fi sound vaguely dirty?

There's a ton on eBay. But I really don't know anything about them nor what to look for besides the ability to backslide down to 3G and use with a new pay-as-you-go or month-to-month service. Good ESN? Bad ESN? Flashed? (Why?)

I don't know any of that either. I did talk to a Verizon rep once and he said for sure there would be no contract. Maybe a rep would steer you right. Maybe keep calling different places until you get an answer.

Hey, I've got one I want to sell!

Here's the CL ad: http://boston.craigslist.org/bmw/mob/4217616289.html

And here's the text:

Verizon MiFi 4G LTE 4510L Jetpack Hotspot

Lightly used on trips. Looks brand new!

$105

Let me add, in case there are some who wonder:

What this does is use a cellular-phone connection to create a wireless Internet
connection with a radius of about 10 feet. I think five people can use it
simultaneously. It's great if you need to work on your laptop and don't want
to compromise your security by using public wireless services in restaurants,
airports, etc. The hotspot allows you to access the Internet over your own
phone line, and is password protected, so no strangers can log on.

Note: If use use an iPhone as a hotspot, you cannot receive calls will the hotspot is turned on. So if you are traveling and need to receive calls, this Jetpack will still come in handy.

If you sign a contract, you can get one of these for next to nothing from Verizon, but if not you'll have to pay. I don't know if this is a good price or not, but I need to cover my line-termination charge for this thing. If you want to make an offer, PM me.
