Fridge crapped out today, great timing - DinerDave - 11-28-2013
A couple days ago, I noticed that our freezer had some frost on the
Packages in it. Odd, but temps were still holding, and I remember once
a while back the door was not perfectly shut due to shifting, but not
open enough to turn on light or activate the door ajar alarm.
Anyway, I shrugged it off since the temps were good.
Today, the temp was not good, and obvious thawing was happening.
Regular fridge compartment not holding either.
Called the dealer we purchased from, they gave a recommended
service to call. He was there in less than an hour, impressive, or lucky
as he was finishing one job and basically had to drive past to his next
appointment, so he took a peek. Compressor shot, need new.
Here starts the fun part. I was at work, so my daughter was home
to let him in. She did not have access to our records and couldn't verify
the actual purchase date for warranty
My wife was able to escape from work before me and came home to
Finish dealing with this. They ended up calling the dealer as we have
two weeks left on warranty. That covers the parts. We also purchased
an extended warranty from the dealer to cover labor.
But,.... The dealer is saying that THEY did not look at it first, labor
is not covered, it's voided.
The dealer gave us the name of the service to call!!!!
They did not say anything about them needing to look at it first.
Soooo, as of 5PM closing time today, we are unclear as to who will
fix the freakin fridge, and how it will be paid for.
Believe me, I will not let this go until they say, gee sorry, we handled this
Wrong, miscommunication we will cover all costs.
Currently, our LG Fridge, Bosch stove, microwave, dishwasher, clothes
washer, dryer , 46 in. Flatscreen, DVD, and outdoor grill all came from
this dealer. They can't be that stupid to pi$$ off a customer like us
because a salesman gave false info to us.
Bottom line, between coolers in garage and my walk in coolers and freezers
At work , we will be moderately inconvenienced, but the feast will
still be on at DinerDave's house tomorrow.

By "great timing" I thought you were referring to the fact you could get a great deal on a new fridge on Black Friday.

Bad timing for sure Dave.
At least you have some back up . . .
and a strong position regarding your dealer loyalty.
Hopefully they will return the favor.

Considering your ability to relay clearly how the events unfolded, I have no doubt you'll be able to get this resolved fairly.

I'm sure it will end up fairly. It was as simple as a sales lady's mistake,
she did not verify info for possible warranty, she just recited from memory,
a number for me to call, did not even need to look it up.

Not trying to steal the thread but here's our recent experience with warranty repair.
The ice and water switch in the door on our Frigidaire Pro model went out 2 weeks ago, it stuck and well
my wife had what looked like glacier break off on the floor had to pull the plug to stop it. They had a
separate number for factory warranty and extended warranty. They contract through different companies
for each. They wanted me to agree over the phone that if it wasn't mechanical or electrical that I would be
responsible for the service call. I told them there's nothing else it could be and no I won't agree to that. She
said it could be abuse, I said excuse me it looks brand new and I could assure her there was no abuse. The
guy came out the next day and took a look, popped the trim off around the dispenser, took out a few
screws, pulled some plugs and popped in a small switch and was done in less than 15 minutes. He said, "I
don't have to approve the repair, these switches are so cheap we actually have sales reps giving them to
us". I looked up the part, $3 on eBay. I watched they guy do it, we only have 2 years left on our warranty,
I can change it out as easy as he did. I'm going to pick one up at Cashwell Appliance Parts in Charlotte one
day to have on hand because this switch is so cheaply made it not going to last long either. The little green
button sticks and works it's way out slowly. He said they've had kitchens flooded because of that little $3
switch. He suggested always leaving it on ice or crush so if it malfunctioned during the night it would
wake someone up.
Notice that the one lug appears to have gotten hot.

So far on our Whirlpool we have had the icemaker board serviced under warranty. I then bought the extended warranty from Whirlpool when they offered it as the original expired.
Two years of fridge bliss as the extended warranty ticked away.
In years 4-7 I have replaced a loud fan, a main circuit board that blows when a light bulb burns out, the ice level sensor, and the fan is a bit louder than normal.

We have a GE Profile Refrigerator with through the door ice and water. The ice cube unit stopped working. Research indicated it would be an easy fix. I was able to remove the unit with no problems.
Replacement cost of the unit on Amazon for the GE part was $138.00. During my research I discovered this part was made by Samsung. The Samsung part on Amazon was $65.00. Fortunately I was able to order the Samsung part. Waiting on its arrival, hopefully on Monday! Can't believe the GE markup on this part.

I can't believe a GE product uses Samsung parts.
