proper cable for an iPad and typical school projector? - Todd's keyboard - 11-29-2013

Any idea on what type of cable can hook up an iPad to a typical projector that would be used in a school?

While I don't yet have an iPad, I can see using one to project some apps to a class of students early next year. Will the same cable work for both the iPad Air and the iPad mini? Does the other end of the cable have a VGA connector? Is a VGA connector the trapezoid-shaped thing with two or three rows of pins?

thanks, Todd's keyboard

Carm nailed it...
The other way to do it, the wireless way, is with an AppleTV being connected to the Projector or TV.

And yet another wireless option is to have your Mac connected to the projector and purchase airserver for Mac OS X. Similar to appletv wireless option

And Apple just loves you to spend the $100 for a device instead of a cable. Of course you'll still need an adapter unless your projector has HDMI... and most schools I know have VGA.

I use a Mac application called reflector, and it is wonderful to have my mac looked to the projector, and it shows my iPad and my iPhone on the Mac therefore on the screen.

Our schools all have VGA connectors so the cable connector to my MBP is what I use. I got mine from OWC to save a few dollars

The schools that are issuing iPads are putting AppleTV's in each classroom for wireless transmission.
