Sheriffs across the country refuse to enforce new Gun Grabber laws - Charlie M. - 12-16-2013 NYT exposes sheriffs who just say 'no' to idiot gun control freaks. Re: Sheriffs across the country refuse to enforce new Gun Grabber laws - cbelt3 - 12-16-2013 One case does not make a point. The point made is troubling, however. When law enforcement does not feel obligated to enforce the law, how can the law have power ? I will also diffidently point out that the US DOJ has also announced that they feel that certain laws are 'not worth of enforcement' for political reasons. Of course those laws, like the ones mentioned above, were enacted for political reasons as well. If government feels that laws are optional, at what point will: 1- Government ignore other laws ? 2- Citizens also ignore other laws and use #1 in the resultant court case against them ? Re: Sheriffs across the country refuse to enforce new Gun Grabber laws - beagledave - 12-16-2013 Because local law enforcement decisions negate the legislative or judicial decisions that created the laws? Re: Sheriffs across the country refuse to enforce new Gun Grabber laws - Chakravartin - 12-17-2013 ...Countering the elected sheriffs are some police chiefs, especially in urban areas, and state officials who say that the laws are not only enforceable but that they are already having an effect. Most gun stores have stopped selling the high-capacity magazines for personal use, although one sheriff acknowledged that some stores continued to sell them illegally. Some people who are selling or otherwise transferring guns privately are seeking background checks. Eric Brown, a spokesman for Gov. John W. Hickenlooper of Colorado, said, “Particularly on background checks, the numbers show the law is working.” The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has run 3,445 checks on private sales since the law went into effect, he said, and has denied gun sales to 70 people.
