Google + Samsung, the new Wintel - deckeda - 01-31-2014

You've read the news that Google is selling the Motorola cellphone division to Lenovo. Here's more about why, it seems.

Interesting article on ars: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/01/nuclear-stand-down-google-samsung-and-the-sale-of-motorola-mobility/

I remember when Motorola was purchased it was seen as a patent grab and maybe that's correct. But Google making cellphones really pissed of the biggest hardware maker of Android phones to the extent they began to copy the Android apps and maneuver to eventually create their own app store and probably even fork the OS, something Google could also have done via Motorola and walled it off, like Apple.

Look at the screenshots from the article of Samsung's copied apps. I didn't realize something so bizarre was happening.

It would seem the opportunity (or desire) for anyone to become the next Apple won't happen.

Thanks for that link deckeda! I had no idea that Samsung and Google were battling it out. I recently ported my POTS landline to a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (I still have my cellphone # on an iPhone5s). I just printed the 200 page User Guide yesterday as the mini guide included with the phone left a lot to be desired. Your post helps me to understand the conflicting dynamics.

Microsoft is trying to be the next Apple.

Great article, thanks for the post.
