Suggestions on DVD recorder/receiver for home theater - tuqqer - 08-05-2006 I'm a home theater newbie. I own an InFocus 61" ScreenPlay UltraThin DLP. I use a DishDVD 502 to record shows. I now want the ability to burn some of these recorded shows to a DVD. My current DVD recorder (it also drives my 5.1 speaker system, so I'm presuming it's also a "receiver" ?) is a horrible Philips HTS3400. Thus, I need a new DVD recorder/receiver. My budget around $400. My main desires are that it plays DVDs well (smooth fast forward/back a must) and if it's possible, to burn DVDs from shows I've recorded on the DishDVD. The unit doesn't have to come with speakers, since I already have them. But if it does, and they're better than the ones the Philip system came with, that's fine. I wired all the speakers through the ceiling and purchased good speaker holders, so changing them out to better ones shouldn't be a problem. If you're using one that you like, or have seem a whopper deal, pass it on. Thanks for any suggestions. Re: Suggestions on DVD recorder/receiver for home theater - ADent - 08-05-2006 Don't know of any DVD Recorder/reciever things. You can pick up a fair recorder for $100 (Magnavox at Sam's/Walmart) and then get a new player with amplifier and such. Re: Suggestions on DVD recorder/receiver for home theater - tuqqer - 08-05-2006 AD, I'd definitely be open to having 2 separate units: the DVD recorder/player, and a separate receiver to run the speakers. Re: Suggestions on DVD recorder/receiver for home theater - Stephanie - 08-05-2006 ADent, funny you should mention that. I picked up one of those very DVD recorders last night for $96.88 at Sam's. So far, it's nice & easy to use. Re: Suggestions on DVD recorder/receiver for home theater - Grateful11 - 08-05-2006 I bought one of those Mags from Samsclub and no disc burned with it would play in my Pioneer Changer, took it back. I am very seriously looking at them and it seems like a good option for me, but I like real world opinions first if possible. Re: Suggestions on DVD recorder/receiver for home theater - Sam3 - 08-06-2006 Too bad it records off the air programs in mono. In this day and age of MTS stereo coming from broadcast stations, this is not right. That fact alone sank this unit as an option. I've been reading about that and i also one reason I've been holding off also. I was hoping it would be upgraded soon to stereo. |
