Pictures from yesterday's walk - davemchine - 04-27-2014 The Cowiche Conservancy group was hosting an Earth Day walk. They had stations to discuss the rock formations, fish in the stream and the plants and animals. I had the chance to see a few birds and a snake (unknown type, green and fast). Here is a link to some pictures if you are interested. Re: Pictures from yesterday's walk - freeradical - 04-27-2014 What is the source of the water? Melting snow? Re: Pictures from yesterday's walk - davemchine - 04-27-2014 I used google maps to try and backtrack the water. It's called Cowiche Creek and it doesn't seem to tie in directly with a major water source from what I can see. It does come from up in the hills to the west so I would agree it's melt off. Ztirffritz is more of an outdoor guy than I am so he may know about it. This trail is about 3 miles long, flat and gravely. So it's a pretty easy walk and gets me away from the busy roads in town. I really enjoy it. I'm hoping to eventual walk the entire length in and then back out. If I were in better shape there is a split from the trail that goes up about a half mile to a winery. I don't drink much anymore but I'm sure it would be a nice setting. http://wilridgewinery.com Re: Pictures from yesterday's walk - Don C - 04-28-2014 Always more fun with a Pug along for the walk, or so my wife insists. Took our Petunia (now RIP) for a walk in the nearby woods and let her run free; she easily covered four times the mileage that we did, mostly staying on the trail but running ahead then back many times. Looks like a great walk and a fine day to do it. Re: Pictures from yesterday's walk - davemchine - 04-28-2014 I am standing next to the old bridge footings with my thirteen year old daughter. She is like me, more suited to the indoors, so I try to encourage her to take these small hikes. She is tremendous fun but likes to walk ahead of the old man. |
