Tehran (AFP) - Iran said on Sunday it has succeeded in copying a US drone it captured in December 2011, with state television broadcasting images apparently showing the replicated aircraft.

Seems like developing a basic drone would not be technologically particularly difficult, at least for one with a spy camera and maybe a basic weapon. I'd be surprised if every first world nation and a fair number of richer or more belligerent developing nations doesn't have a drone program, we just don't hear about it.

The 'captured drone' pictures seriously looked like a cheesy R/C aircraft model. This one looks like a better model. I would not be surprised if they had developed their technology to this level. The real issue with small jet engines is reliability. There is nothing magical about UAV's, they've been used since before WWII. The availability of technology is pretty high. Thanks, internets...
However... the breathless willingness of Western media to accept Iranian Propaganda as Truth is annoying as hell.
