Blade Runner sequel in the works. - steve... - 05-16-2014 Can they improve on the original? We'll have to wait. Harrison Ford is being sought for the lead role. The "Blade Runner" sequel will be directed by Ridley Scott, who helmed the original film, from a script by Hampton Fancher (who co-wrote the original) and Michael Green. Adapted from the Philip K. Dick novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" the original "Blade Runner" told the story of a gruff retired cop (Ford) enlisted to hunt down and "retire" (that is, kill) a group of replicants (androids indistinguishable from humans) on the loose in futuristic Los Angeles. Though the movie was not a commercial success upon release, it has come to be considered a sci-fi classic. LA Times Re: Blade Runner sequel in the works. - SteveG - 05-16-2014 One thing that worked about the film was that like its source material, it reeked of paranoia (one of Philip k Dick's finest qualities) and an impending sense of doom. Re: Blade Runner sequel in the works. - Paul F. - 05-16-2014 I"m afraid that would be a mistake.... I'd see it, certainly, but I have a hard time imagining it would be any comparison to the original. Re: Blade Runner sequel in the works. - blooz - 05-16-2014 Ditto, Paul. Re: Blade Runner sequel in the works. - RAMd®d - 05-16-2014 I don't think it would be very hard to make a good sequel. It's just that it's far too easy to screw it up with trying to out do the original. Although even the "original" had it's share of versions. Years from now, we could be talking about how the 46th edition was definitive and answered all of the questions left from the first 45. Re: Blade Runner sequel in the works. - WHiiP - 05-16-2014 It would certainly create an upheaval of interest in the original since the original was over 32 YEARS ago. But, I certainly don't see Harrison Ford as the central character. Maybe the old "legend" that the new guy has to contact and and jerk around for solid information. Not my favorite film by any stretch (the original) ![]() Re: Blade Runner sequel in the works. - cbelt3 - 05-16-2014 I can't see that getting done well. The acting, the environment, the whole gestalt... I fear another "Rollerball II" concept, which took the original story of individualism against corporate control and made it all MTV stupid. Some films should be left the heck alone. Rutger Hauer's crowning role, IMHO. "I've... seen things you people wouldn't believe... [contemptuous laugh] Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those... moments... will be lost in time, like [small cough] tears... in... rain. Time... to die.." ![]() Re: Blade Runner sequel in the works. - JoeM - 05-16-2014 cbelt3 wrote: I agree. Rutger Hauer's last seen that you mentioned was nothing short of brilliant. |
