Question about OWC Mercury Elite Pro, dual bay - ka jowct - 05-17-2014
I've got one lying around here that I've never used (got it on eBay a couple years ago). It takes SATA drives, has FW400, FW800 and USB 2.
I think I remember that these enclosures don't do JBOD. Is that correct?

This is what I found at OWC:
On the logic board of the dual bay case, you’ll find a jumper that sets the configuration of the drive enclosure. By default, the case is set to span drives, allowing you to install 2 differ- ent sized hard drives. But with a simple jumper change, you
can have independent drive channels, with both drive mounting on the desktop, a stripe, with matched drives for maximum speed (writing to both drives simultaneously), or a span, writing to both drives in sequence (once one is full, the other is used). Remove the jumper for 2 drives independent operation.
Move the jumper to the LEFT for STRIPE (RAID-0).
Leave it as is, on the right jumper to SPAN your 2 hard drives. The above bottom picture is in the SPAN position.
Based on this I would believe you can change the jumper and have your JBOD.

The above information may be incorrect, as O continue to read what OWC has posted online. It does not appear to have any info regarding the PATA Mercury Elite Pro dual drive case. My bad.
In examining my unit I see no jumpers.
I will continue to look.

I opened up my enclosure last night to see whether it was SATA or PATA, as I couldn't remember. Turns out to be SATA. Someone, possibly the previous owner, had hand-written a jumper diagram on the inside of the case, and a note about where to find the jumpers. Without it, I'd have had no clue. I did look around a bit at OWC, but couldn't find info on the older enclosure.
The jumpers in the enclosure I have are at the very back of the bridge board on the right, not visible unless you disconnect the rear SATA cable. Not sure where they would be on a PATA case, though.
Good news if it can do JBOD. I may actually find a use for it if that is true. I think I bought it just wanting an enclosure that could hold more than one drive.

Unfortunately, that is not the correct manual. Mine has ONLY FW 400 and 2 FW 800 ports. No USB at all.
