I saw that. I didn't want to be too greedy, so I bought 2 for me and 2 for my wife. She actually can use it. I don't see myself using it, but the rebates will be nice.
BTW, the rebate goes directly to your paypal account when you register the reader.

Why do people pay for a square reader when all you have to do is sign up and they send it to you for free?

Because they don't want to wait for it to arrive in the mail; you need it immediately and you know you will be reimbursed for the purchase price (or more).
