Lady Luck was with the truck driver - kap - 06-03-2014

The truck driver would have been deep in legal doodoo had the boneheaded kid been hurt. However, because of his quick action other children were out of harm way.

RAM tough didn't hurt, either. - RAMd®d - 06-03-2014

I don't know that he's out of the woods, regarding any litigation.

But a lot of people could have been hurt.

The truck appears to be no worse for wear, at least as far as the body is concerned.

His insurance company may not be too happy.

No doubt he did the right thing - but I wonder if the insurance companies are getting ready to tell him to bend over...

Good on 'im...

It won't hurt that he has a police department, a bunch of parents, and the internet, to vouch for him to the insurance company....

Exactly.

I think they'd take the "for profit" stance.

That said, I don't know that they could deny the claim, but they could probably either just pay and treat it like an at-fault "accident", or drop him, after paying the claim.

Not a bit.

But I don't know that it will be any more help.

I hope there's no subsequent litigation from the driver's family.

The guy did good. I hope all goes well. He deserves all the slack he can get.

If you purposely damage your vehicle the insurance company won't cover it. But I imagine the driver of the pick-up could care less.

hero truck driver. slightly vigilante, perhaps.
I'll toss $10 his way for lawyer fees if needed and they start a donation site.

If he gets sued, I hope the families that he protected sue the kid that stole the car. Which if I understand correctly would put his parents on the hook. They might not get anything, but if each filed a separate lawsuit, the cost of defending their kid could cost them an awful lot.
