My daughters new bike - davemchine - 06-04-2014
Everyone has been very helpful in helping me resolve the crushed bike incident of 2014 so I thought I would post pictures of my daughter's new bike as of today. She went up two bike sizes. From a petite to a regular size and she is thrilled.
I also bought a water bottle cage and a bike lock. Next she wants a basket to bring books home from the library. I'm going to look for one with a quick release so it won't have to be mounted all the time. If you have recommendations please post away.

When you lift the handles the basket releases from the mounting bracket. I've noticed that if there is nothing in the basket it can come loose if the handles bounce up too high, but a simple clip to hold the handles down would solve that problem.

I always recommend your basic cargo rack arrangement, with a removable pannier that easily fits over and on it for cargo. Drops the weight down lower making for a more stable ride, and no basket in front to interrupt the field of view.
Unless she wants to carry a little dog, too...

That doesn't look safe! She's riding with impaired visibility. tell her to get her hair out of her eyes.
What brand/model did you buy? I couldn't tell from the pictures. I'll be in the market for one for my 10 soon-to-be 11 year old daughter.

What about using a bungee cord? It would also help to keep items in the basket.

The bike is a Giant Enchant. I have a Giant Boulder as does my wife and older daughter so I naturally went back to get one for my youngest daughter. They don't make the Boulder anymore but I decided to stick with the same manufacturer so they would all be serviced at the same shop. Giant has been good to me so far.

Most bike shops can and will service anything. Doesn't really matter what they sell. Regardless, very nice bike and I'm glad she enjoys riding.
