Friend wants to take one for the team, how do I tell which OS comes on refurb mini? - Filliam H. Muffman - 06-05-2014

With MacBook Pro, the screen color/image is supposed to imply what OS it ships with. I did not see anything to indicate what OS ships on various mini models... anybody have insight? :dunno:

Galaxy = Mountain Lion.

Wave = Mavericks.

Mini... They all run 10.8 and if you already have it from the App Store it'll be in your "purchases" list so don't worry about it if it comes with Mavericks and you don't want to run Mavericks because you can replace the OS as you will.

Where does it show the desktop on the refurb mini page? Edit: So every mini comes with ML?

No.

But if you install ML on it, any Mini refurb from the Apple Store will boot from it because they were last updated in 2012 and originally shipped with 10.8.1.

The rule of thumb is that Macs can always be booted from the OS that the design originally shipped with, so even if it was manufactured yesterday, since a current Mini is still a "2012" model it will be able to boot from a ML disk.

If you already have a license for ML, you can replace Mavericks with ML on any 2012 Mac Mini.

I don't know, but I don't think "taking one for the team" applies to Minis or TB displays anymore. It's kind of like buying an iPod Classic. Who knew they still made them?

Sorry, I didn't get a lot of sleep last night, I was trying to figure out which mini ships with which OS. Does it default to the OS that first shipped with a specific model?

Would a Mid-2011 2.5 GHz i5 FC816LL/A always ship with 10.7?

Consider ML the earliest OS you are likely to find installed on any refurb Mac from Apple at this point.

(And you're not likely to find a 2011 Mini in stock at the refurb store.)

Okay, the mini has not been updated in so long, none come with Mavericks. It has not been updated in so long, there aren't any left with Lion. Check.

Mavericks is a free upgrade.

Are you looking for an older OS, or do you want it shipped with the latest OS?? Why are you asking?
