Can an AirPort Extreme (5th, last "flat" model) not be setup via WiFi? - deckeda - 06-05-2014 Dad moved. I plugged in his AE at the new place and AirPort Setup can't even see it wirelessly. Does unplugging it for awhile eventually reset it to WiFi off? Re: Can an AirPort Extreme (5th, last "flat" model) not be setup via WiFi? - deckeda - 06-05-2014 And it's not that I'm too lazy to plug Ethernet into it from my Mac; I'm out at breakfast now and just wanted to confirm the issue ahead of time --minimal downtime would be a plus at the house ... It was just flashing yellow. Re: Can an AirPort Extreme (5th, last "flat" model) not be setup via WiFi? - testcase - 06-05-2014 I can access my flat Apple Time Capsule via WiFi so, I expect you should be able to do the same with your dad's AirPort Extreme. When I moved my AE from the office (Verizon DSL ) to the house (cable) I'm pretty sure I had to press and hold that reset button on the back but still the airport utility opened on its own to report a problem with the AE. Hold it until the light flashes, maybe yellow, maybe orange. The AE should be plugged into ethernet on the WAN port, looks like this: http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/B000MP831G-ports.jpg I've never set up an Airport device over WiFi, so I don't know how/if that works. But, if you've got a spare ethernet cable handy, plug your machine into one of the LAN ports and set it up that way. Jeff Re: Can an AirPort Extreme (5th, last "flat" model) not be setup via WiFi? - decay - 06-05-2014 Resetting an AirPort base station FAQ http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728 Soft reset: Perform this reset if you have forgotten your password. A soft reset resets your password and disables security settings (Access Control and RADIUS settings are temporarily interrupted). Forgetting the password would normally prevent you from connecting to or configuring the device. If you make no changes within five minutes of doing a soft reset, the device will revert back to its former state. All of the device's settings will be available after it has restarted. Hard reset: Perform this reset for troubleshooting and resolving problems with an unresponsive device, or to troubleshoot network accessibility issues. Default Settings reset: Perform this reset if you wish to repurpose the device and want to remove all personal profiles and settings first. This reset resets the device to its state when you first purchased it. Data stored on internal or external hard drives connected to the device will not be erased. If you choose, you may manually erase the hard drive using AirPort Utility. Re: Can an AirPort Extreme (5th, last "flat" model) not be setup via WiFi? - deckeda - 06-05-2014 Yeah. I had to reset it, and use Ethernet to set it up. Re: Can an AirPort Extreme (5th, last "flat" model) not be setup via WiFi? - OWC Jamie - 06-05-2014 You shouldn't have had to use a cable ( I've never had to ) but if you got it working that's all that counts. |
