"The 6 most disappointing destinations in Europe" - Black - 09-02-2014 Thinking about a Europe trip again.... probably at least 2-3 cities. I came across this: http://www.dreameurotrip.com/6-most-disappointing-destinations-europe/ I'm wondering what the forum would rank as "most disappointing" Europe experience. Re: "The 6 most disappointing destinations in Europe" - sekker - 09-02-2014 I enjoyed my visit to Brugges. Re: "The 6 most disappointing destinations in Europe" - dk62 - 09-02-2014 Interestingly, I thouroughly enjoyed my first visit to Brugges and pretty much shared the author's sentiments the second time. Re: "The 6 most disappointing destinations in Europe" - modelamac - 09-02-2014 Rich, self-centered. The world owes that person comfort and entertainment. Re: "The 6 most disappointing destinations in Europe" - macphanatic - 09-02-2014 Oslo's a great city. Lots to see and do. He whined because it was expensive and he knew it. Re: "The 6 most disappointing destinations in Europe" - OWC Jamie - 09-02-2014 Gibraltar lose the monkeys they are not cute All of Norway is expensive, not just Oslo. Year-round. Worst vacation ever was China. Re: "The 6 most disappointing destinations in Europe" - eustacetilley - 09-02-2014 I have this obnoxious tendency of having a great time wherever I go. Once, I was stuck overnight in Heathrow. There was bad weather and some sort of Terror thing involved, but no matter. We couldn't leave. The most peculiarly garbed men mosied about with what I take were submachine guns. There was this girl crying- she couldn't have been much older than twenty. We got to talking; she was an Au Pair, going home for a few days back to France just after Christmas, because Au Pairing was in much demand at Christmastime, in Britain. We were eventually joined by a very drunk Soccer Hooligan, who couldn't have been nicer to either of us. (There were others there, being very scared, and not trying to draw much attention to themselves.) We were at the ground floor, and as much as I was allowed, I was allowed to wander. There was a door in a corner quite improperly propped open, and I was allowed to pass through into a Garage area that had a little van that sold tea and pastries all night long, to the regular all-nighters. So much actual work gets done between the time that the last plane lands, and the first plane takes off. I brought back tea and bikkies at around 4AM, and while we sipped and munched away, we listened, just a little heartbroken, as the little Au Pair told us how much she wanted to go back to France and see her Boyfriend. Oh, and her family as well. By 7AM, things were pretty much back to normal, so I had the full run of Heathrow until my 1PM rescheduled flight. (The "Duty-Free" prices were utter rubbish, but I did buy a few things.) The Au Pair made her 9AM flight, and the Hooligan made no flight at all- he was already home, he just wanted to spend some non-Heathrow time in it. The link in the OP just stinks of near-sighted petty arrogance. It is very easy to be offended, if one seeks offense out. Eustace Re: "The 6 most disappointing destinations in Europe" - GuyGene - 09-02-2014 Now that's the way to travel eustace! Don't know wha' nary au pair is, but ye did right. Re: "The 6 most disappointing destinations in Europe" - rz - 09-02-2014 The guy knocks Paris because one person stared at him on the Metro. And that some "sketchy" people hung around the Metro stations while he "expected fashionable people running for the train before it leaves". He also went in February and seemed shocked that it was "grey and cold." Duh! It's winter dumbass. Re: "The 6 most disappointing destinations in Europe" - Will Collier - 09-02-2014 Lot of dislike for eastern Europe in that piece... diametrically opposite from my experiences in that part of the world. Having heard tales of rude Frenchmen (and -women) all my life, I was quite ready to hate Paris in the single brief day I spent there (I'm not counting getting stuck at De Gaulle Airport a couple of other times; getting stuck in any airport by definition sucks), but to my mild consternation, every single Parisian I so much as bumped into on the sidewalk went out of their way to be nice to me. The only 'major' European destinations I've visited that didn't care for were Vienna (I was 22, and found it dull; I'd probably have a different reaction today) and Mykonos, aka the Panama City Beach of the Greek Islands... |
