what do you know about ETFs and advantages over MFs? - mrbigstuff - 09-11-2014

This is not for me, BTW, but I'm trying to do some research relative to a non-profit. The temptation to switch MF investment is the lower fees attached to the ETF, apparently.

all things being equal.....all things are equal.

i think it has more to do with extenuating circumstances such as what funds are available to hold in the accounts.

I'm sure these things vary widely, but at Vanguard fees seem to be about the same. Can hardly argue with one-twentieth of a percent.

Expense Ratio
Total Stock Mkt Idx Adm 0.05%
Total Stock Market ETF 0.05%

I believe the difference between the 2 in the Vanguard example is the MF 'value' changes once a day (at close of market). The ETF 'value' (hence price) changes contantly during the day similiar to a individual stock.
