Optical stabilizer on IPhone 6 Plus is making me rethink my phablet aversion - pRICE cUBE - 09-12-2014 Yes, I have SLR and a myriad of cameras that are much better cameras. My iPhone 5 has been so nifty for quick grab shots and video. This optical stabilizer is a feature I have been using for over a decade and have been quite spoiled by it. It is not absolutely needed for still images but makes the framing of subject matter less jiggly. Image Stabilizer will be huge for video shooting and making footage more useable. When I see this 6 Plus in the store, I may have to rethink my aversion to phablet sized devices. Reports so far have people saying it isn't too unwieldy. I figure if it was too big I might as well stick with iPhone 5 and get an iPad mini. Re: Optical stabilizer on IPhone 6 Plus is making me rethink my phablet aversion - Carnos Jax - 09-12-2014 Both the stabilizer and landscape mode of some of the apps made me seriously consider the 6 Plus. But when I printed out the templates for the 6 Plus, I found it too big. Still, I wonder if I should actually wait until getting my hands on one before making a final decision. Re: Optical stabilizer on IPhone 6 Plus is making me rethink my phablet aversion - OWC Larry - 09-12-2014 Personally - am looking forward to holding the new phones in person before making any decisions. My wife has already said she wants my 5S - she was waiting for the 6 but believes just too big for her to use comfortable. I'd love to justify a 6p - but these do just look too darn big. Have to see it in person. Wonder when Apple will add the near field tech to an updated 5S or new 4" phone entry. Re: Optical stabilizer on IPhone 6 Plus is making me rethink my phablet aversion - rjmacs - 09-12-2014 They tell me it always seem too big in theory, but i promise when you see it in person, it's all starlight and moonbeams. We're still talking about phones, right? ![]() Re: Optical stabilizer on IPhone 6 Plus is making me rethink my phablet aversion - sekker - 09-12-2014 OWC Larry wrote: I was worried, too, Larry - so I made my own 3D phone models based on a post here: http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,1765239,1765239#msg-1765239 (which links to an Ars Technica link here: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2014/09/how-big-is-the-iphone-6-plus-find-out-with-our-handy-paper-template/) Added some cardboard to make it 3 dimensions, added a virtual case, too. I decided on the plus because; 1) better battery life. I use my 5S a lot and need a battery case to last all day. iPhone6 with battery case is about the total volume and more weight than an iPhone6+ with a slim case. 2) Better camera with OIS. http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,1766576 PS The Apple Watch adds NFC features to someone using an iPhone 5.x. I agree with all of your points. It looks like the 6 plus is in my future soon. Although my 5 YO+ iPhone 3GS still works like a champ, I'm ready for some new iron. Re: Optical stabilizer on IPhone 6 Plus is making me rethink my phablet aversion - deckeda - 09-12-2014 I printed the templates from Ars and noticed I hold my 4 scrunched down with my hand forming a C shape using fingertips to hold the phone. The larger models' greater width is a "plus" (no pun intended, heh) because I can keep my hand flatter and use more of the phones' back while holding it. Seen in this way, the 6 Plus is the most comfortable to hold. But lordy where would I put the thing? In my nonexistent man purse? There's also the issue of, if photography/videography is emphasized, the $300 6 Plus is out the window. I'd want at least 64GB of space there. For me that's a $200, not $100 difference in price. |
