On school nights, no computers (except for school projects,) no TV watching for our kids. The rule was absolute.

I'll bet Jobs was a fascist about a lot of things at home.
I read that it took something like eight years to remodel their kitchen. I would have remodeled him if he had held up my remodeling project for that long. I also read that his wife said no more remodeling projects, after that.

I clicked on the headline at google news and was really annoyed that the story was not about Jobs' household at all, but about tech CEOs households in general. The first sentence and the last had Jobs, but the rest was about others.
Damn those headline writers!

I kept explaining that to my kids... If I let you unfettered access to everything, I'm a BAD Parent.
Kid: " But my friend X has his gizmo whenever he wants it !"
Me: " So how does X behave ? "
Kid: "He's kind of a spoiled brat."
Me: "Hmmm...See a trend there ? "
Kid: "(groan).. OK, Ok, Got it."

My daughter glommed onto my tech stuff at a young age so I went ahead and encouraged such exploration. She's pretty tech savvy for her age and that doesn't bug me. She's the one that got me into Minecraft. Everything in moderation, but it is a bit hypocritical for Jobs to have pushed the iPad into schools, but to limit access at his home. No?
