NYTs: Jobs Was iPad Fascist With His Kids - chopper - 09-12-2014 Or, something like that. “So, your kids must love the iPad?” I asked Mr. Jobs, trying to change the subject. The company’s first tablet was just hitting the shelves. “They haven’t used it,” he told me. “We limit how much technology our kids use at home.” Limit Re: NYTs: Jobs Was iPad Fascist With His Kids - Speedy - 09-12-2014 On school nights, no computers (except for school projects,) no TV watching for our kids. The rule was absolute. Re: NYTs: Jobs Was iPad Fascist With His Kids - rgG - 09-12-2014 I'll bet Jobs was a fascist about a lot of things at home. ![]() I read that it took something like eight years to remodel their kitchen. I would have remodeled him if he had held up my remodeling project for that long. I also read that his wife said no more remodeling projects, after that. Re: NYTs: Jobs Was iPad Fascist With His Kids - Speedy - 09-12-2014 rgG wrote: I also read that his wife said no more remodeling projects, after that. Which was his goal all along! Brilliant man. Re: NYTs: Jobs Was iPad Fascist With His Kids - hal - 09-12-2014 I clicked on the headline at google news and was really annoyed that the story was not about Jobs' household at all, but about tech CEOs households in general. The first sentence and the last had Jobs, but the rest was about others. Damn those headline writers! Interesting article overall, but false advertising... Re: NYTs: Jobs Was iPad Fascist With His Kids - cbelt3 - 09-12-2014 Sounds like he was a GOOD Parent. I kept explaining that to my kids... If I let you unfettered access to everything, I'm a BAD Parent. Kid: " But my friend X has his gizmo whenever he wants it !" Me: " So how does X behave ? " Kid: "He's kind of a spoiled brat." Me: "Hmmm...See a trend there ? " Kid: "(groan).. OK, Ok, Got it." Re: NYTs: Jobs Was iPad Fascist With His Kids - RAMd®d - 09-12-2014 Good parenting seen as fascism? Sounds like click bait. And I fell for it. Re: NYTs: Jobs Was iPad Fascist With His Kids - GGD - 09-12-2014 I suspect that Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer had similar "no ipad" restrictions with their children. Re: NYTs: Jobs Was iPad Fascist With His Kids - Chobert Ruhl - 09-13-2014 Definitely no Google. Their kids are limited to slumming on Bing. Re: NYTs: Jobs Was iPad Fascist With His Kids - silvarios - 09-13-2014 My daughter glommed onto my tech stuff at a young age so I went ahead and encouraged such exploration. She's pretty tech savvy for her age and that doesn't bug me. She's the one that got me into Minecraft. Everything in moderation, but it is a bit hypocritical for Jobs to have pushed the iPad into schools, but to limit access at his home. No? |
