Setting up a new mac -- with a new AppleID -- but old iPhone has old ID - jdc - 09-13-2014

Going to install Mavs on my new SSD -- but would like to break the AppleID I share with my wife.

All new name, etc, etc.

Ive got an iPhone -- so wondering if I will have to completely erase it to sync to the new AppleID.

tons of apps, but think 99% of them were free, so I can just download new.

Ive got a backup of them on my old system -- but not sure if my wife has all of them. Not really sure that I care...

Probably the biggest thing is my contacts. Is there a way to export/import them from the iPhone? iCloud? I really don't want to put all of my contacts into my wifes AppleID, she doesn't need any of them.

Insights?

Well, hell, sorry. I may have answered my own question. Went to new iTunes, selected contacts and "merged" with iPhone. So current (none) with old from iPhone. Now to see if I can erase iPhone and restore.

EDIT Nope, didn't work

You can export your contacts on your Mac or even from iCloud.com then import them where you choose.
In iCloud contacts-use the gear in the lower left.
You can share iTunes AppleIDs and have your own iCloud AppleID. This fall you will be able to do "Family Share" with multiple iTunes AppleIDs.

PM me---I set this stuff up all the time---Happy to help.

thanks Ken -- almost ready -- my contacts are only on my iPhone...

Ive got the rest of Mavs setup -- all the adobe apps setup, mail configured (need to redo rules, have tons) and all the rest of the annoying Mavs things fixed -- color sidebar icons, folder labels, etc

Why would you need to erase the phone?

Just sign in to iCloud and/or the App Store with the new AppleID from each respective setting in Preferences.

In fact, they don't even have to be the same AppleID. I draw my store purchases from one ID that is dedicated to it, and my iCloud data from another.

Only the apps will end up being a problem with your new ID. All of the other "stuff" can work by just changing the iCloud account on the phone to the new ID.

Apps purchased under the old ID will have to be updated under that ID or re-purchased under the new ID. Free apps are no problem but you may decide to keep the Paid apps under the old ID.

Whatever you do, do NOT let your wife's iDevices ever connect to YOUR user account on any Mac, and vice versa. If that happens, iTunes on whichever User account will grab on to that iDevice and all of it's contents and never let go. Syncing and updating will become a nightmare. This is the voice of experience telling you this.
