Maps navigation with iPhone 5 - stingy with spoken directions - JoeM - 10-19-2014

Most times - no talkie, ever now and then spoken directions, and hardly ever get spoken directions through BT in the car even though I have perfect BT playback of my phones music. I have voice set to loud in the settings yet still no voice.

Does anyone get consistent voice directions over BT? Any settings I should be checking besides notifications and those in Maps?

Same here, both on my old Android and my new iPhone 6. Never get voice direction thru BT on either.

I used Apple Maps (also Google Maps) on iPad in Europe, recently, and there were entire sections without any voice prompts of any kind, restarting the search for destinations would give the voice directions again....

It works very well for me, whether I use Maps or Navigon.

One thing I've noticed recently, which may or may not be related to going to iOS8, is that some names have become truncated.

Siri or Lady Navigon will skip part of a name in the last part of a direction. This has happened before in other iOSs, on rare occasions. I haven't used it much in iOS8, so it may just be my perception.

Otherwise I get all the direction needed to get where I'm going. The increments seem to be 10mi, 2mi, and 900' and under.

When you're in navigation, tap the screen, and hit the speaker in the lower right. You can have it on Bluetooth or on the phone itself. Sometimes I like to have it just speak direction to the phone, so it doesn't interrupt the radio. When using iPhone music, the nav should "speak over" the music. When you tap the speaker icon, make sure that you have also adjusted your sound settings, because it's different than the normal sound setting.

Thanks, I'll try that.
