Critter ID: Ducks - DP - 10-20-2014
Am stumped over some ducks on the lake Up North last week. They look like mergansers with the bill color, but the bill isn't thin and hooked, and the coloration on the head is all wrong. On the other hand, my bird books don't show year 'round coloration so this could be Winter plumage.
These were shot with digital zoom but there's enough detail, I think.

Hooded mergansers, non-breeding plumage, I'm guessing females/juveniles.
