Mac Mini G4: Using with OS 9 - SKYLANE - 11-24-2014
Been using OS 10.5.8 on a Mac Mini G4 (1.5 GHz). I don't use the computer too much for anything anymore, but primarily work with it headless when I do -- controlling it from a newer MacBook Pro (10.10.1) through screen sharing.
I have a desire to move OS 9 stuff off of an old Wall Street (wanting to retire that laptop) and put all the data on the Mac Mini G4.
(1) If I understand correctly, I need to put OS 10.4 back on the machine to run OS 9 in Classic Mode (documents I researched state that I cannot boot OS 9)?
(2) I don't have any experience running OS 9 in Classic Mode. Straight Forward? Is OS 9 on the 10.4 install disk? Or, do I bring that to the party? If so, maybe I can just copy over the OS 9 files directly from the Wall Street? Suggestions?
(3) Not sure if I will keep the 10.5.8 configuration, but if I do, maybe I will put 10.4 on a FW external drive. I think I can screen share with 10.4 as well. Just as easy as screen share with 10.5?

I think you'll need the original discs that came with it.

What apps are you running under OS 9 that you can't run under OS X?

Have a LOT of files that I did in MacDraw & MacDraw Pro. Would like to print them and PDF them. Manipulate a few of the files where needed.
There was a program (name eludes me now) that I made several music files in. Inserting notes from sheet music into the files to hear it play, manipulating instruments. That particular software probably didn't run in OS 9 anyway.
I did a LOT of my Flight Instructor teaching aids in various programs that I just need to print and convert to OS X or to pdf files.
Probably other fun stuff in there once I browse around a bit.

I just did that with a TiBook, I used the original install disks to reinstall everything. It is an OS9 based installer that installed 10.1, I updated it to 10.4.11 with classic.
