Upgrade conversations. Mom and Sister - vision63 - 12-01-2014

"Hey mama, don't you want the new iPhone 6? It's time for you to upgrade." "How is it better than my 5s?" "Well, it's got a bigger screen, a better camera and other stuff." "Nah, I got this one set up like I like it, why don't you just focus on your own upgrade?" "I already upgraded." "Good for you. Then finish cleaning out my garage, put that on your upgrade."

"Hey Leslie, they say you can upgrade to the new Note 4, it's the bomb. Want me to pick you up and take you to T-Mobile?" "How is it better than my Note 3?" "Well, it's got 4k resolution, a better camera and is snazzier in general." "No, I think I'll stick with this until it breaks." "I thought you were gonna fix my lawnmower and wash my car?" I shouldn't have opened my mouth.

Women!

I didn't say I would "fix" the lawnmower, I said I'd "try" to fix it. My fear is it's going to lead me actually "doing" the lawn. They never care what game is on.

Best of luck with the lawnmower. Mine has so far gone like this:

"Dad, this TV is a great price. So is this sound bar." (He's got his new mancave almost finished.)

"I'll just wait until you get here for Christmas and then we'll go out and get something."

Guess what kinds of things are on sale this week? Guess what's the very last thing I want to be doing 3rd week in Dec?

Have mercy. We're like built in farm workers.

or indentured servants

Set my mother-in-law up this past weekend with her new-to-her MBA ... last time she ever touched a computer was 2002, using Windows ... got her messed up iPhone contacts in better shape (movie, song and book titles/memos were stored in there, along with odd nicknames for people as first or last names ... all synced and nice.

And then her brother sends her money, online via Chase QuickPay. It's a decent system, I've accepted money this way in the past. But you should have been there as we jumped through all the hoops to get her registered at a bank that's not hers, now waiting to verify the test deposits into her bank and so on. Already had two calls from her today and we ain't done yet.

Dude, I can feel the headache now while you patiently and painstakingly proceed step by tedious step.

First call today, I answer, she says, "Are you avoiding me yet?"

"Not yet. It's only noon. Smile "

She wanted to look at the Chase site even though she still hadn't seen the test deposits into her account, making the visit to Chase pointless. Entered the login credentials wrong ... from her iPhone, which isn't even authorized yet to login there.

The funny part was when we set everything up on her Mac and at the last screen Chase says, "Oh, we don't recognize this computer, can we send you a verification text?" So they send her a verification text to her phone which of course isn't authorized to even visit the site yet.

Even weirder is after everything was setup, all bank paranoia fulfilled, Chase allows the user ID and password to be remembered. Just call up the page again, hit the Return key and get in--the login fields are remembered, no password manager necessary.
