Battery recall--Apple's web site screwed up - elmo3 - 08-24-2006 My iBook is eligible, but it claims my battery isn't. The serial number range for the faulty batteries is listed as 6C510 through 6C626. My battery, model A1061, is serial number 6C534--right in the middle of the range. Yet, Apple's web site claims that's no good. Apparently, Apple can't do simple math. I gave up on the battery hotline number. I'm on hold for AppleCare right now. We'll see how long THAT goes. Apple, I would love to automate this (notwithstanding the aggravation of going without a battery for up to 8 weeks--gee, thanks, Apple). I would be very happy doing this all via a simple web page. But when you can't do simple math, you've aggravated me unnecessarily to an unacceptable level. A la BGnR and his elbowing sidewalk bicyclists for entertainment, I plan on giving AppleCare the old Radio Shack "What's your name?" "Ghosseindhatsghabyfaird-johnson." "How do you spell that" "With a hyphen." level hassle. Put me on hold for 30 or 40 minutes, and I will extract my amusement. Re: Battery recall--Apple's web site screwed up - BigGuynRusty - 08-24-2006 You hate Apple, Apple hates you! (-: BGnR Re: Battery recall--Apple's web site screwed up - Ken Sp. - 08-24-2006 .STF...and you didn't read this one post and about 10 posts down? Re: Battery recall--Apple's web site screwed up - Silencio - 08-24-2006 It's a symbiotic relationship. Actually, you may as well not stay on the phone. They say they'll have the web site fixed tonight sometime. This was all mentioned in the previous lengthy thread about the battery recall. http://forums.macresource.com/read/1/155249 Re: Battery recall--Apple's web site screwed up - BCam - 08-25-2006 You think that's bad? The service computer just plain refused to accept my ZIP code. So, since I didn't live where Apple thinks I do, the computer wouldn;t budge and allow the exchange to take place. But a tored sounding lady was persistant, and I figured, hey, I'm only one of 1.1 million - so we hung in there and it finally accepted. It's gotta b a bad day when a million people call in for personal service. Actually, I turned on the speaker phone, washed the dishes and chuckled at Pat Buchanon on "Hardball" while I waited. Ooops - was I multi-tasking? Re: Battery recall--Apple's web site screwed up - chas_m - 08-25-2006 Did you guys know that this is not a sale that only lasts for four hours? Come back in a week. Heck, come back NEXT YEAR. This recall will still be going on. I have in my hands a copy of the PREVIOUS Apple recall for iBook batteries from May 25, 2005. All of the batteries in the current recall are listed in THIS recall -- from a year ago. Do you get it yet? Unclench. Relax. Check back later. Re: Battery recall--Apple's web site screwed up - Silencio - 08-25-2006 Just tried punching my 12" Powerbook's battery's serial number in again, and this time it took it. So it's looking safe for everyone to jump all over Apple's web site again. :p Re: Battery recall--Apple's web site screwed up - RAMd®d - 08-25-2006 You hate Apple, Apple hates you! POMTL! Re: Battery recall--Apple's web site screwed up - DaviDC. - 08-25-2006 I checked out the status of the G4 iBook I sold to a friend a couple of months ago & it said the iBook was eligible but the battery wasn't. Since it was a refurb, maybe the battery had been replaced? Re: Battery recall--Apple's web site screwed up - endymion - 08-25-2006 I couldn't get my battery replaced last night, but I just tried it again and it went through. So they've fixed the problem. g= |
