Epson CD/DVD printers (tray question) - The Grim Ninja - 08-25-2006 I have an Epson R300 printer which I mostly use for printing directly on optical disks. To do so, one must place said disk on a tray which the printer ingests, then prints onto the disk, then regurgitates. As it is, I have to give my tray a bump EVERY time it needs to be inserted, probably due to wear & tear on the tray and rollers. (Quite an annoyance, since I have to pay 5x as much attention to it than normal). I've noticed that a few months ago Epson released a new revision of the tray. I guess this version is 1-piece and doesn't have a small clear plastic flap at the end. Anyone have one of these? They work well? Anyone had one of the old styles, upgraded, and experienced something relevant enough to add comments to this thread? I'm helping a few friends' bands out with promotion and will be printing quite a few disks out in the near future. I'm also considering buying a new R220 from Staples. It's $99 online, I have a $10 off $100 coupon + nine of the $3 ink coupons... Comments? Re: Epson CD/DVD printers (tray question) - Spock - 08-25-2006 I didn't know that Epson had changed the design. Recently the clear plastic broke and I removed the rest of it. Since then the tray has worked much better and most of the time it doesn't need the 'push'. Spock Re: Epson CD/DVD printers (tray question) - graylocks - 08-25-2006 FYI, Staples recently put a 3 coupon limit on those ink coupons. don't know if all stores have instituted the policy but the three in my area have. Re: Epson CD/DVD printers (tray question) - The Grim Ninja - 08-25-2006 Yes, in-store it's a 3 limit. Online it's 10. The trays are about $15 shipped on Ebay. Just wondering if they're worth it. I may try mine without the plastic.. Re: Epson CD/DVD printers (tray question) - blusubaru - 08-25-2006 I had the same problem on my R300 when I was printing all the wedding cd's. For the last batch I bought a new R320 (with the cool little LCD) for $50 at RS AR. It sucks the tray in no problem. It still has the first version of the tray that you speak of, but it's working so much better. I think the R300 itself was worn out from the cd printing (probably did 400-500 discs in two years). Re: Epson CD/DVD printers (tray question) - The Grim Ninja - 08-25-2006 Yeah, I'm sure a new printer would work fine, but considering I just bought ink for this one and would like to use it an addition to a new printer, it's not quite what I'm going for. This printer was $180 when I bought it, so I'm wanting to get a bit more use out of it before its retired. Just trying to figure out the best way to overcome the rollers issue. (I'm considering taking it to my belt sander so there isn't so much plastic that has to fit through the rollers..) |
