Java 8 Update 40 - Ask.com crapware - decay - 03-04-2015 Well, Oracle has done it on the Mac side after polluting PC users for months. ![]() Java 8 Update 40 now installs Ask.com garbage by default on your Mac. Re: Java 8 Update 40 - Ask.com crapware - silvarios - 03-04-2015 That's awful. Luckily I don't need Java on my systems. Re: Java 8 Update 40 - Ask.com crapware - space-time - 03-04-2015 At least it seems to be clearly marked. When I installed something from CNET, I think the message that they change your search engine to Spigot was so subtle that you could easily miss it (I did miss it). Anyway, this stinks just as bad. Re: Java 8 Update 40 - Ask.com crapware - hal - 03-04-2015 At least they warn you with those check boxes right in the front instead of c-net simply telling you that you are about to install something other than the app you wanted to download, but do so by burying it DEEP in the endless agreement. PS - I wasn't thrilled when apple looked like they wanted to take total control of the app ecosystem with the creation of the app store, but this kinda crap makes the app store much more appealing. Re: Java 8 Update 40 - Ask.com crapware - sekker - 03-06-2015 Yes, this is now the new norm. Ugh. The one nice side effect should be less add-on crapware with installers, but there's serious problems with how Apple's app stores are run. Lot of long time Apple developers chafing at the restrictions. Not to mention the iOS store is filled with crap apps anyway (same with Google Play frankly). |
