looking for a part for a Tivo series 2, coming up empty. Next steps? - clay - 03-05-2015

Have a Tivo series 2 that has a dead Coax in/out module/tv tuner. Looks like it's soldered on the tivo logic board, but wouldn't be terribly difficult to replace. part is a Samsung, tcsn9082pa20t

nothing comes up on ebay, but does come up in google searches. Found a part on alibaba, but requires minimum of 200 to order. Other sites are proving to be similarly obtuse and are preventing me from finding a source to order one or two of these parts.

here's one such site, the part looks correct, but no way to really order:

Any other ideas for sources I should check?

Ebay a cheap series 2, and gut it?

Sometimes you can find the older TiVos at thrift stores, Salvation Army etc. I always get them and check for a lifetime. If it has a lifetime they bring a pretty good price on eBay.

I get them from time to time. If I get one I will PM you.

yeah, I may go the ebay route. We have thrift stores here, but don't too often get the "nice" stuff that I'd actually want, so I don't think there's much chance of finding one locally. If I can't source the part from somewhere, I'll probably just roll the dice and go with an ebay unit, hoping that the coax board is still good. This unit still has lifetime service, so it's worth a little money/time to get it working again.

Just make sure the listing says it boots up. There's lots of logic boards up too, with the part you need.

Nice to see someone other than me is still using one. Mine was a thrift store lifetime'd model, too. 6 bucks!

mine is one of the Humax DVD models...wonder if they use the same part as the Tivo-branded, HDD-only models? Looks like there is one working Humax board available right now for about $15. Maybe I'll go that route if I don't find anything else.

The other DVD-recorder models came with Toshiba branding, not TiVo.

Have you tried weaknees?

You're correct...

I haven't looked at their site for this part, but from what I've seen in the past, their spare parts are often more costly than buying a known good entire working unit on ebay.
