SSD recommendation Mid 2010 13" MBP - sunfalcon - 05-02-2015

Hello! I just picked up a used mid-2010 13" MBP with 4GB memory and the stock 320GB hard drive. I loaded up 10.10.3 and while everything seems to work fine, I would like to put a SSD into it and make it more snappy. Any recommendations? 128GB is fine for what I need. I see there are a number of options from Crucial, Samsung, OCZ, Pony, etc....from about $50 - $90.

Will I really notice a difference from a lower priced one to a higher priced one? I'm sure any of them will be much faster than the drive that is currently in my machine.

Thanks!

OWC, Crucial, Sandisk, maybe Samsung.

Honestly, I would look for Crucial, Samsung or OWC.

OWC has Crucial SSDs earlier - great price and great device, but they only had 1Tb last time I checked.

Amazon also has 128gb Crucial ($73) and Samsung 128gb for $78

The current best price point I have seen was Crucial 256 GB for $85, but that was a factory closeout of refurb drives. I have not seen a repeat of this offer, but I bet it will repeat with this, or another product line, sometime in the next 3 months.

240-256 GB is the sweet spot, wouldn't waste my money on 128 GB.

Should be able to get one for under $100, or even below $90.

For that 5 year old MBP, getting the latest/greatest/fastest isn't worth it IMHO.

Thanks for the options. I've got a nice 256GB SSD that has been running in my desktop for two years. Thought about upgrading that to a larger drive and putting it into my laptop...

I'm not looking for miracles, but just like tinkering.

Thanks!

Perfect. I've done that many times in the recent past - double or triple swapping SSDs as the price points have dropped (and people keep hording stuff)...

This limitation does not apply to the OP machine which is newer.
