Approaching the end of an era: Las Vegas edition - N-OS X-tasy! - 05-05-2015

The Riviera closed yesterday after 60 years. There is now only one of the old-time Vegas Strip hotels remaining - the Tropicana stands alone.

I stayed at the Riviera last year.
I can see why it closed. Shabby, really run down, the hallway I was in smelled like urine, and nobody that worked there seemed to give a crap.
Sad, yes... but it was probably time.

I agree with all of the above - the Riv's been in that state of disrepair for a good while now, actually. Still a sad day, though.

Yup...
Las Vegas has become a city with no history. They tore it all down.
Some of it needed to go, but it's still sad that it's virtually all gone now.

The Riviera was shabby 15+ years ago the one time I stayed there. :boink:

Yup. That was approximately the last time I stayed there, also.

There's still Circus Circus. Not from the same era but cheap and scary.

Isn't Caesars Palace from pretty close to that era, early 1960s instead of late 1950s.

"Las Vegas has become a city with no history. They tore it all down."
Are you implying it had some, ever? You young Americans!
