Approaching the end of an era: Las Vegas edition - N-OS X-tasy! - 05-05-2015 The Riviera closed yesterday after 60 years. There is now only one of the old-time Vegas Strip hotels remaining - the Tropicana stands alone. http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/05/travel/riviera-hotel-casino-vegas-closes-feat/index.html Re: Approaching the end of an era: Las Vegas edition - Paul F. - 05-05-2015 I stayed at the Riviera last year. I can see why it closed. Shabby, really run down, the hallway I was in smelled like urine, and nobody that worked there seemed to give a crap. Sad, yes... but it was probably time. Still a sad day, though. Re: Approaching the end of an era: Las Vegas edition - Paul F. - 05-06-2015 Yup... Las Vegas has become a city with no history. They tore it all down. Some of it needed to go, but it's still sad that it's virtually all gone now. Re: Approaching the end of an era: Las Vegas edition - testcase - 05-06-2015 The Riviera was shabby 15+ years ago the one time I stayed there. :boink: Re: Approaching the end of an era: Las Vegas edition - N-OS X-tasy! - 05-06-2015 testcase wrote: Yup. That was approximately the last time I stayed there, also. Re: Approaching the end of an era: Las Vegas edition - colonel panic - 05-06-2015 There's still Circus Circus. Not from the same era but cheap and scary. ![]() Re: Approaching the end of an era: Las Vegas edition - GGD - 05-06-2015 Isn't Caesars Palace from pretty close to that era, early 1960s instead of late 1950s. Re: Approaching the end of an era: Las Vegas edition - Manlove - 05-06-2015 "Las Vegas has become a city with no history. They tore it all down." Are you implying it had some, ever? You young Americans! Re: Approaching the end of an era: Las Vegas edition - Paul F. - 05-06-2015 Manlove wrote: History's gotta start somewhere! ![]() |
