A question about Delta Skymiles - freeradical - 05-06-2015

I just checked my balance with Amex, and I have 23,678 miles.

Is this a lot, a "normal" sort of amount, or just a piss-ant quantity?

Free round trip ticket is 20,000 or 25,000 miles. Congrats!

For Sky miles, most domestic roundtrips start at 25,000 miles, though on some routes the lowest priced redemptions can be hard to find. You can redeem for one way awards at half the cost. You can also use the pay with miles option, that reduces the cost of your ticket by paying part of the cost with miles. By the way, you can earn miles dining, too, at http://skymiles.rewardsnetwork.com.

They're not miles; they're points!

You can't go 25,000 miles with 25,000 of them. So they're not "miles," dammit! :turbo:

Sorry. Pet peeve.

It's also possible to purchase more points or miles to get you up to an award level.

I've got 500,000 with AmEx; still trying to convince sister's family that we should all go to Paris for a week. But once the kids get old enough to have work and school and camp schedules, it gets tricky.

...which usually is not worth it...

What would be the advantage in doing this?

Can't you use your points and cash together to purchase a ticket?

You can find a flight for 25,000 miles but if you're picky on dates it could be 32,500 or 35,000. Sitting on a dl flight now waiting for takeoff.

One of the best uses of miles once you have enough is international first class. The Delta Reserve Amex is my strategy and I get miles, upgrades and more. It for me is a better deal than the Costco Amex.
