Note that Cree doesn't make flashlights. That light probably has a Cree LED in it, but many such lights have low quality circuitry that overdrives the LED to get high lumen outputs thus resulting in early failures. For $11 you're not risking much but I wouldn't expect such a cheap light to last very long.

Same basic flashlight sold under a dozen names on eBay for the same price. Some will come with a battery and a cheap charger.

Gone.

I am still looking for a good inexpensive charger for the 18650 batteries. I got a similar deal on a 3 W flashlight several years ago and couldn't find a charger for less than double the cost of the flashlight. I have heard that the round or square cross section phone/tablet battery boosters have the 18650 batteries in them and would work as a charger, but I haven't seen one on sale locally.

I've bought several cheapo, high lumen flashlights... some are actually well made, while others are pretty pathetic. Regulated/protected batteries will help, but they can be more expensive than the flashlights they're used in. That said, and as Davester notes, an $11 risk isn't much, but there are websites that also provide the specs of the components used. I'm batting about 50% overall at Yugster... 2 really good flashlights for the deal, 1 decent unit, 2 so-so (regiftable) flashlights, and 1 total junker. It's a roll of the dice.

I have six 3xAAA LED flashlights that I bought from Costco for $20 for three.

Two get a lot of use, and have held up for about three or more years. They were not any name brand that I ever heard of, and have been a real deal.

Before I pronounced judgement one way or the other, I'd probably check with one of the flashlight zealot forums.

Moot point in this case, but I'd look deeper than the cover.
