Apple Pay - pipiens - 08-05-2015 I just used a vending machine that took Apple pay for the first time. It was next to the ice machine on the 5th floor of a Hilton in Phoenix. It is a great use for Apple pay since I didn't have to search for bills that the machine reader would accept. No bills required, with or without Apple Pay, Google Wallet, etc. Re: Apple Pay - Article Accelerator - 08-05-2015 pipiens wrote: Yep, super convenient, especially with the Apple Watch. Re: Apple Pay - macphanatic - 08-05-2015 I'd feel a lot better using Apple Pay at a vending machine than swiping a card. Seems like a great place for a skimmer to be used. Add another $350 if you don't want to have to keep removing your $650 from your pocket. I'm cognizant of data breaches and skimmers and such similar tactics compromising credit cards, but I've also never been issued a replacement card on account of such problems. When it happens, I'll revisit my approach. Re: Apple Pay - vision63 - 08-05-2015 silvarios wrote: I'd feel much better if it didnt cost me $650 to use Apple Pay. When it happens, I'll revisit my approach. If it takes Apple Pay, it takes Google Wallet. Same thing. I replaced my iPhone 6+ temporarily with a 5s (sucks in comparison to the glorious 6+) so I use both payment systems (HTC One M9). I'm always a little worried about skimmers too. Ideally we should all really use cash. Re: Apple Pay - silvarios - 08-05-2015 vision63 wrote: Yeah. That's likely true, even still, I'm not using a $650 Android phone either. ![]() My Fire Phone might even work with Google Wallet if I sideload the GAPPS again. Say it ain't so! :RollingEyesSmiley5: If Apple Pay/Google Wallet didn't exist, wouldn't I still need to reach into my pocket for my wallet? As an aside, I prefer Apple Pay for one simple reason: It shields the purchaser from having to provide information for the transaction that could be used to identify him and/or his credit card; AFAIK, none of the other "electronic wallet" standards do that. For the moment, it is the closest you can get to making an electronic transaction as anonymous as a cash transaction. Re: Apple Pay - vision63 - 08-05-2015 silvarios wrote: Yeah. I gave one of my God Daughters this phone (HTC Evo 4G LTE Sprint) this phone) and she rocks the hell out of it. Pays for everything with the wallet. Her friend bought one on Craigslist for $40 dollars. That's a years old phone. ![]() Re: Apple Pay - silvarios - 08-05-2015 N-OS X-tasy! wrote: Check the thread again. I'm not the one who suggested one should buy a $350 Apple Watch to avoid taking out my phone. I was commenting on the price of such a suggestion already in play. Even so, getting my wallet out and then dropping it on the ground doesn't cost me hundreds of dollars in repair costs because I just had to purchase $2.00 overpriced candy bar. ![]() Either way, these payment systems are great options, but the buy in cost is stupidly expensive for Apple Pay. Much less so for Google Wallet, but it isn't exactly free either. My actual credit card is provided free of charge and I have to have such an account to link it to Apple Pay anyway. |
