Yes, that is the correct one to get one free report a year from each of the three. Some people spread it out and choose a report every four months alternating between the three agencies.

You can also sign up for free at creditkarma.com, and they have a great app. You get a close approximation of your credit score, and you can see how certain things affect your score. It is free.

Another vote for creditkarma.com

(and Ken gave good advice)

While I like Credit Karma quite a lot, be advised that the score you receive from them is NOT your FICO score.

I'm not sure how they obtain their numbers, but it's always lower than my actual FICO score I see on my statement from Discover Card every month.

Rick,

Very true. But, what you get from Credit Karma is good enough to get an idea of what's happening with your credit. If someone needs a more specific number, then it's worth paying for it. 'course, this is a non-issue if you have a Discover card. I believe American Express offers the same feature, too.

Robert, yes, I agree Credit Karma is good enough in most instances. After posting, I logged on to CK and noticed they use a different system than from my last visit.

Instead of one combined credit score number, (which was 778 I believe) I was presented with two numbers. One from TransUnion (825), and one from Equifax (830). I know there's another agency out there, but I can't remember their name and CK only gave me 2 out of the 3.

However, these two numbers are different, although very close from my latest Discover Card statement of 815 FICO.

At least now I know where CK gets their info from.

If you ever forget just google "credit report site:.gov" without the quotes and it will take you to the FTC site that points you to the place you need to be.
