on no, my 17" g5/imac 2.0v2 is getting jiggy on me! - robfilms - 09-13-2006 so here's the situation: 17" g5 imac 2.0 v2/10.4.7/9mos old refurb from online apple store i keep my imac running almost all the time. when not in use, i put the machine to sleep. three times in the last 4 weeks, i've come back to my desk to find the machine off, there is no slow blinking light on the lower right corner designating the machine is asleep. there is nothing. when i attempt to wake the machine, the screen does not light but the rear upper fans do start to blow. when i continue to try to wake the machine, all i get are the fans blowing. i have attempted to control-apple-escape to force quit but nothing appears on the screen. i have to unplug the machine from the wall socket, then re-boot. when i re-boot, i do get the "happy bong" and there are no alerts or dialogue boxes explaining the shut down. anyone want to be kind enough to venture a guess as to what might be going on and how i can either ascertain the nature of the problem or suggest a solution to my travails? up until now, i have been VERY happy with this machine. thanks in advance to any and all who care to share. be well rob Re: on no, my 17" g5/imac 2.0v2 is getting jiggy on me! - Ken Sp. - 09-13-2006 It might be part of the extended Coverage here http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/ Since it is only 9 months old--It is covered. That could have something to do with the sleep issue. Re: on no, my 17" g5/imac 2.0v2 is getting jiggy on me! - robfilms - 09-14-2006 often i have several external hard drives via the fw but lately, i have had ONLY the printer via usb and a lexar 6-1 card reader via usb. the keybd/mouse is also usb. all of these 3 shutdowns have happened w/o any of the ext hard drives. any other thoughts? thanks again for sharing be well rob Re: on no, my 17" g5/imac 2.0v2 is getting jiggy on me! - blusubaru - 09-14-2006 Call Apple. You're under warranty. Did you do that video card hack that we talked about a while ago? If so you may want to undo that before sending it back or taking it in.
