SOLD: 2 Drobo raid units (four bay) - davemchine - 01-24-2016

I have two of the four bay Drobo raid array boxes. These have USB2 and Firewire800 ports. I used canned air to blow all the dust out so they are clean. I installed drives in each and tested using Drive Genius 4. One unit only works via Firewire800. The other unit works via both ports. As you can see from the picture each unit is missing one of the bay doors but that does not affect how it works at all. I've been using them for years (bought one from a fellow forum member) but I recently moved to a Drobo 5N so these are ready for a new owner. You would receive the Drobo plus power supply. $120 for the one with both ports working. $100 for the firewire only one.

Coronado tube radio that belonged to my grandparents. Here is a better picture of the radio plus a picture of it in my grandparents house. That is my grandfather (deceased), my aunt and my uncle. Amazing what a home entertainment system used to look like.

Do the Drobo units have a max capacity? Can they be attached to an AirPort Base Station to use as a NAS?

Re: For Sale: 2 Drobo raid units (four bay) - davemchine - 01-25-2016

The Drobo's can accept 4TB drives. After overhead for the raid that gives you 14.5TB of storage. The Drobo calculator shows 6TB drives being compatible but I'm not sure that is true. If it was true you could have 21.8TB of storage. http://www.drobo.com/storage-products/capacity-calculator/ . Either way it supports volume sizes up to 16TB and then it auto creates a 2nd volume.

The Drobo with a working USB port can be attached to a base station. The 2nd Drobo only works via firewire800 though so it could not be attached to a base station.

Is that blue bakelite on the radio? Delightful!

I'm a dropbo newbie - but I've been wanting to learn more.

How do you connect them to the network via Firewire? I have an i3 iMac with FW800 ports; would that work to have one of these on my home network?

If so, I am interested. PM me.

TIA!

I replied via PM but I will also reply here for anyone interested. These Drobo's plug directly into the computer and appear just like any other external hard drive. You can access them from another computer if you have file sharing turned on.
