The Fat Summit - anonymouse1 - 01-26-2016

I'm a bit of a summit junkie--you know, where someone pulls together 10 or 20 guests on-line to interview or make presentations around a common theme.

This is one the best-maybe the best-summit I've ever listened to. It's mostly about recent medical findings around healthy diet, the role of fat, carbohydrate, and the agro-chemical industry. The quality of the presenters and the level of integrity is very high-there's a very high emphasis on the science. If you doubt it, check out the interview with Gary Taubes.

Presenters include Deepak Chopra, MD; Vani Hari (The Food Babe); Christiane Northrup, MD; Daniel Amen, MD; Nick Ortner; Congressman Tim Ryan; Joel Fuhrman, MD; Dean Ornish, MD; Chris Kresser, MS, LAc; Pedram Shojai, OMD; Barry Sears, PhD; David Ludwig, MD, PhD; Ronald Krauss, MD; and Gary Taubes. Let me know what you think.

Oh good God, the rest of the people in that list had better be damn good to counter those first two in the list.

Fat people DON'T like listening to skinny people telling them how to lose weight.

Re: The Fat Summit - anonymouse1 - 01-27-2016

Sigh. This is about health, not about fat vs. skinny

Re the Food Babe, one small example.

Subway Drops The Yoga Mat!– In June 2012, I released a ground breaking investigation into Subway ingredients. Subway refused to take our concerns seriously. As a result, in February of 2014, I started a petition asking Subway to remove a potentially harmful chemical, azodicarbonamide, from their bread. This chemical, which is also used in the production of yoga mats and the soles of shoes was definitely not something anyone looking to “eat fresh” should be consuming – especially since Subway was not using this ingredient for other countries. The Food Babe Army signed the petition, (we gathered more than 50,000 signatures in 24 hours), voiced our concerns on Subway’s Facebook page, and refused to consume their products until changes were made. In a mere 24 hours, Subway responded to us by agreeing to remove azodicarbonamide from their bread and completed this change by April of 2014.

Data--it's your friend!

Re: The Fat Summit - Lew Zealand - 01-27-2016

That isn't data, it's scare tactics.

From the Wikipedias: "In the United States, azodicarbonamide has generally recognized as safe (GRAS) status and is allowed to be added to flour at levels up to 45 ppm. Azodicarbonamide has not been authorized for use in Australia and the European Union as a food additive."

"The WHO concluded, "The level of risk is uncertain; hence, exposure levels should be reduced as much as possible"."

IOW, we have no data to support our claims that it's bad for you but it has a big, scary name so it's probably bad for you. The Food Babe is a Trumpesque ignoramus who lives to keep her 15 minutes of fame as long as she can milk it.

Vani Hari: An Unhealthy Addiction

Re: The Fat Summit - anonymouse1 - 01-27-2016

Fine, eat all the yoga mats you want to.

I'll stick to real food, thanks.

I'll be sure to do that, now that you're suggesting it.

Thanks for the link, freeradical. I'd waste my time trying to research it as well as the SciBabe did.

Re: The Fat Summit - pRICE cUBE - 01-27-2016

Vani Hari uses pseudo science and misleading statements to sell her own line of snake oil remedies. Follow the money with that one. If she truly cared about people's health, she would use real science and not write a scare you to death articles with a pitch for her "cures".
