I didnt read the link, but from what I remember they pulled their lawsuit with the caveat that they could maybe try again later.
So I see this as a "you cant come after us ever and dont even think about it again" response?

Yes and then some. The trolls file blanket lawsuits against companies that they feel are likely to roll over and pay to make the lawsuit go away. Filing the lawsuit doesn't cost much. Defending against it does cost money. Most likely, the troll wouldn't have the resources to pursue each case if each defendant chose to fight the claims. Newegg is forcing them to spend the money, to enforce their claim so that they 1) suffer the same financial burden that they've inflicted on others and 2) they can't come back and sue them again at a later date. Yes.
This is Newegg kicking Perez out the door, then barring it shut.
As in z's post, they will force 1) to so as to establish 2).

Only if other companies can use Newgg's data/defense to support their own claim, and they have the resources to fight Minero, et al, in court. That's time and money that the target demographic usually lacks.
If one has a company that will go under, but be otherwise be "right", it's not hard to see why they might "roll over".
Note that the tribute demanded of these companies likely isn't enough to break them, in most cases.
This would be killing the goose. Not many geese want to commit suicide.

To clarify, yes, if Newegg wins this, the case would stand as a legal precedent.
Whether other companies can use that as such would depend on the aforementioned factors.

Hopefully, Newegg will stick it to the patent troll. It would be good for not only Newegg, but their attorney as well. He'll probably get a lot more work for these cases.

Newegg won't lose, because patent trolls do not have facts on their side. They have intimidation and time on their side.
