anybody from or know anybody in tuscaloosa alabama? - robfilms - 03-09-2016

my daughter has been accepted in a clinical psych phd program at the university of alabama in tuscaloosa.

yippee!!!

for what my daughter wants to study, alabama's program is arguably the best in the country.

yippee again!!!

i/we/she/knows no one from that part of the country.

aside from the obvious: roll tide roll, red state, chief judge justice roy moore, very nice professors in the program, who has something useful to share about the great state of alabama?

thanks in advance.

be well.

rob

As an Auburn grad, I will refrain from responding in this particular case. :villagers:

An Italian elephant walks into a dentist's office.

The dentist asks "so what brings you here today?"

The elephant replied "My Tuscaloosa."

Since you asked so nicely...

First of all congrats to your daughter (you'll never know how much that hurts to say), but as far as details about Tuscaloosa, I've only been there for a few football games, and don't know the area well. I grew up in south Alabama, a long way away.

Tuscaloosa does have something of a bad reputation for crime, so I'd definitely take care in what area she chooses to live in, but I can't make recommendations myself, just because I don't really know how to get anywhere other than the stadium in the first place.

If she were going to live in Birmingham (which would surprise me, very long commute), I could probably be of more help as my sister lives there, but I'm pretty limited as far as practical information on Tuscaloosa. Best of luck...

My wife (from the North) went there for college circa late seventies.

She said at that time, "they were still fighting the civil war".

I would imagine things have changed since.

...... alabama's program is arguably the best in the country.

Considering the native population, that makes perfect sense.

Congrats to your daughter nonetheless.

All I can say is congratulations to your daughter, and I hope she can put on a nice Southern accent to keep the patients comfortable, Y'all. I can turn mine on and off at will.

I wouldn't count on it...many down there call it "The War of Northern Aggression."

I always suspected those southern accents were phony!!!

Very nice on the ears, though. :-)
