Setting up a quad core mac mini - what configuration should I go with? - hal - 03-16-2016

I buy macs and beef them up for resale to make profit.

Just rec'd a great little mini - quad core 2.3 i7 with a 1TB Hard drive.

The hard drive is in the 'upper' bay meaning that the more accessible 'lower' bay is free. And I have the needed hardware to install a second drive.

But I'm having a hard time deciding which would be most cost-advantageous.

I have a 2TB hard drive that cost me $80 that I could install. I have a 256GB Apple SSD pull that cost me nothing (well, y'know what I mean)

The fusion drive would be fast and cool, but 3TB is 3TB and there aren't many minis with more than 2TB available at any given time.

Which config would you prefer? Which would you pay the most for?

PS - I'm NOT willing to remove the original hard drive - a PAIN in the azs.

Fusion. Its all about the speed.

A 2 TB Fusion would be better, but you would know better if you can re-coup the $80 cost.

1 TB SSD and CCC to clone to HD daily.

Also depends on your use case. For a personal machine, SSD all the way. You can always add external drives for media.

SSD. I will NEVER go back to using an HD again. Certainly not a 5400 RPM

I think you guys both missed that he plans on selling it.

It was worth a try :-)

As a buyer I would only be interested in stock configuration. That's the one Gene was gunning for I think.

No I didn't. I just said what I would like to buy if I were in the market Smile

Fusion drive. Or better yet, just put the SSD in and make it the boot drive, and leave the 1TB in for storage.
