How to buy a gift card? - Todd's keyboard - 03-18-2016 A few days ago I asked for a recommendation for a restaurant in Phoenix. I wanted to buy a gift card to give to a friend who had helped me out. The response seemed to lean in the direction of just giving him a pre-paid credit card and let him decide what he wanted to do with it. That makes sense. Just spoke with my credit-card company. I can't purchase a pre-paid credit card through my company. (It almost worked by using points, but a card purchased with points has to be to a specific merchant.) So, any suggestions on how to buy a pre-paid gift card for $100? I assume I'll go online and use my credit card to buy another credit card. Is one company better than another? As an aside, also found out I have a lot more points built up. I'll have to figure out what to do with them. This sounds like some research that won't be painful. thanks, Todd's grateful keyboard Re: How to buy a gift card? - N-OS X-tasy! - 03-18-2016 Most supermarkets include pre-paid credit cards as part of the array of gift cards they offer. Re: How to buy a gift card? - Carm - 03-18-2016 Do you know what restaurant your friend likes to frequent? Grocery stores/office supply/ club stores all offer gift cards. Re: How to buy a gift card? - Todd's keyboard - 03-18-2016 Thanks. I'm in Canada right now, and the card is for a friend in Phoenix. I'll get down to Washington state on Saturday, and will see what the supermarket there offers. He said he prefers to eat at home, rather than at restaurants. Doesn't like the feeling of being water on. I can understand that. thanks again, Todd's hard-to-shop-for-someone-else keyboard Re: How to buy a gift card? - Robert M - 03-18-2016 Todd, Check the bank with whom you have a checking or savings account. TD Bank does gift cards and there aren't any extra "activation" fees. I always get gift cards from TD Bank since we have an account with them. Get a card at the local supermarket or drug store and you'll pay the amount of the gift and an activation fee. Not a huge amount - Just a few dollars - but it's a fee nonetheless. Robert Re: How to buy a gift card? - Todd's keyboard - 03-18-2016 Robert, Good idea. Thanks. I'll check tomorrow, eh. |
