MetroPCS won't sell SIM? - silvarios - 03-18-2016
Client is an existing MetroPCS customer, wanted a new phone, got him a compatible unlocked phone, told him his existing SIM is too big and needs a nano SIM. No problem just pop into the store and ask them for one, shouldn't be more than $10.
Calls me, "Metro PCS says I have to buy a phone to get a SIM." Uh, what?

Anyway, guess I'm going to need to just order a SIM online if I want to avoid this shell game with the reps trying to upsell my client. Any thoughts here?

Get a SIM cutter. Cut down the SIM card, sand a little off the back until it fits.

Don't even need a sim cutter. There are patterns online. one of those and a razor blade. It isn't hard at all.

I ordered one. I know, I'm a sucker, but I have to wait for the case anyway. No big deal. Thanks for the thoughts. Both were good ideas.

It's not easy, either. A SIM cutter gives you better odds of doing it right on the 1st time. Don't want to cut into the contacts by accident or sit there polishing rough edges with an emery board to get it to fit.

I've cut three with no issues. Tape the card to the pattern, line up a sharp kitchen knife to score it, then a razor to finish - no sanding needed. It takes about 2 minutes.
I have no issue with anyone getting a cutter, that is their choice. But don't make the job sound difficult, or overly risky, because it isn't.

Why not just go on-line to the MetroPCS site and order the SIM for $10?
Or order a SIM card from T-Mobile and switch to them. MetroPCS is owned by T-Mobile, both have pretty much the same plans and both run on the same towers. But for some reason there appear to be slightly better deals from T-Mobile.

Not up to me to switch. Client generally likes his plan. But I did mention it.
