FU to El Cap mail problem - blooz - 04-27-2016 I don't know what caused the original problem, but today I finally called Apple support and we discovered that the Verizon person had made a mistake while controlling the computer. Fixing that unleashed the emails finally. What is strange is that the verizon tech had changed the user name and replacing it with the original name (which was there when things weren't working before) got everything working again. Anyway, email returned to normal. I did update to the latest El Cap which my friend had not done. Maybe that helped. Seems like a lot of people have had problems with El Cap email, and at least one of them said he solved the problem by updating to 10.11.4. Re: FU to El Cap mail problem - jdc - 04-27-2016 All the more reason to get a gmail account. Maybe it's just me but I never understand why anyone would want a .att or .comcast or .veriozon or any other provider email. If you ever decide to change service for whatever reason you have to get a whole new email all over again. No thanks. Re: FU to El Cap mail problem - max - 04-27-2016 Except that you can compound the problem with gmail on top of El Capitan if are somewhere that has a problem with Google. Like China. Some places it works, most regions it does not. OTOH IOS gets in to google servers most of the time. .... I would have just kept my .mac address, which they said would always be free, but then they started charging for it. Now you can get an iCloud for free. Seems crazy they started charging for the .mac email, but whatever. I do now have gmail addresses, but I pay to keep the EarthLink, at least for now, till I can be sure I have transitioned every one of the old ones over. Big PITA, so yes, a non ISP email is definitely the way to go, now. |
