An unabashed musical plug: If you're in Atlanta this weekend... - Will Collier - 04-27-2016 I will be playing guitar for my wife's band Chronic But Not Serious, on stage again for 500 Songs For Kids, this time around at Smith's Olde Bar on Saturday night. Here's more info about 500SKF and the Songs For Kids Foundation that it supports: http://www.songsforkids.org/500songsforkids There will be a lot of great bands (plus, er, us) playing one song each, and there's usually a big-name act or two that'll play a few more. I don't know who they have lined for Saturday, but we "opened" for Arrested Development last year, which was very cool. Cover donation is "whatever you want to pay," $10 is the suggested amount. The Music Therapy ladies chose Steely Dan's "Reelin' In The Years" for our song this year. As the poor bastard who has to play lead, I will of course be reporting to the nearest urgent care for multiple finger surgery immediately after the show, but I suppose I can put that off long enough to self-medicate with any random forumites who choose to attend. We're scheduled to go on around 9:15, and it's always a good time for a very good cause. ![]() Re: An unabashed musical plug: If you're in Atlanta this weekend... - rgG - 04-27-2016 That is so cool. Love the name of the band, BTW Re: An unabashed musical plug: If you're in Atlanta this weekend... - stephen - 04-27-2016 I'm on a shoot in Chicago, but if I were in town I would absolutely go. Hope it's a great success. Re: An unabashed musical plug: If you're in Atlanta this weekend... - vision63 - 04-27-2016 Sounds like a good time. Re: An unabashed musical plug: If you're in Atlanta this weekend... - cbelt3 - 04-27-2016 Holee... that tune has some pretty serious fingering. Good luck ! From Wiki" "Reelin' in the Years" (sometimes "Reeling in the Years") is a song by jazz rock band Steely Dan, released as the second single from their 1972 album, Can't Buy a Thrill. It reached number 11 in the Billboard charts.[1] The song was written by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker and features Fagen on vocals. The song was also a #11 hit on the Pop singles chart in 1973. In March 2005, Q magazine placed the song at number 95 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks. Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page has reportedly said that Elliott Randall's guitar solo on "Reeling in the Years" is his favorite solo of all time.[2][3] That solo was also ranked the 40th best guitar solo of all time by the readers of Guitar World magazine.[4] Fagen referred to the song as "dumb but effective" in Rolling Stone magazine. The four-channel Quadrophonic mix of the recording has extra lead guitar fills not heard in the more common two-channel Stereo version. |
