Another day, another insult - Ombligo - 08-08-2016
After a quiet Sunday, Trump started the work week by insulting Minnesota and the 70,000 Somali's who live there.
"It (Minnesota) has become a “rich pool” of potential recruiting targets for ISIS and other Islamic terror groups.
“It’s happening,” Trump said. “It’s happening. You see it and you read about it. You see it. And you can be smart, and you can be cunning and tough, or you can be very, very dumb and not want to see what’s going on, folks.”
The comment during rally in Maine immediately drew response from state politicians and residents.
EDIT -- oops, my bad. The comments were made last week but overshadowed by all the other insane comments he made.
Nothing new to see here, folks, move along...

Well, Minnesota did take a large number of refugees from Somalia and adjacent areas. When the immigrant kids grew into tech-savvy young men, some have kept in touch (and been radicalized from a distance), and a few have gone back to fight in Somalia and Syria.
That said, they've otherwise been a pretty good immigrant population here. In my experience, they work really hard at sh!t jobs, and I've yet to hear of any that have turned to religious violence within their newly- adopted country. Like any new immigrant population coming in at the bottom of the economic ladder, there has been some violence, but almost all seems to be contained within their communities, for better (us) or worse (them).
(PS- and as someone who lives in the metro area , while there are Somali communities/neighborhoods, there are no "no-go" zones).

PPS- as an illustration of the Somali community in MN (which is not all in the big city) there was this recent story:
Willmar, a city of about 19,600, has seen great growth in the number of residents originally from Somalia. Abi and other community leaders guess that the number is at least 2,000. Both boys’ families moved to the city about a year and a half ago, he said, drawn here because of relatives and jobs at the Jennie-O meatpacking plants.
(ie working hard at...well...hard jobs - cleaning turkey carcasses and the like)
The sad part - two young kids drowned:
Hashi, 11, and his friend Idris Hussein, 10, were found Tuesday night in the shallow water of Foot Lake, less than a block from Hashi’s house. Neither of the fourth-graders could swim, [his mother] Mohamed said, via an interpreter. But just the other day, she had decided to enroll Hashi in swim lessons.
Hundreds of folks, both recent Somali immigrants, and old-school whitebread Minnesotans, turned out for the funeral:

No, things are not perfect in Lake Wobegon...but all in all, we think the story of Somali immigration here has been a positive one.

Trump then said that immigrants from primarily Muslim countries are "arrested for conducting or threatening to carry out violent attacks, teaching bomb-making to recruits, and otherwise supporting terror groups."
He then named these countries as Afghanistan, Iraq, Morocco, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria, Uzbekistan, Yemen and the Philippines, and piped up, "We're dealing with animals."
