FOUND: Seeking Mac laptop up to $400 - lost in space - 08-14-2016 87 year old friend of my sister is looking to replace her aged (!) Macbook. Her budget is up to $400. Anybody have anything? Re: Seeking Mac laptop up to $400 - Buzz - 08-15-2016 Pristine CTO 900MHz 14" G3 iBook w/ max 640MB RAM, original "b" AirPort card, extra battery and power adapter, and massive 60GB hard drive. Fresh Tiger install, and also dual boots into Mac OS 9.2x... but for $400 you'll have to pick it up or pay for shipping. ![]() == Actually, is she looking for another MacBook, or MBA, or MBP, and what size and ideal OS are desired (or that she's comfortable with)? == Re: Seeking Mac laptop up to $400 - lost in space - 08-15-2016 Gee whiz, Buzz, what a rare deal! I think I'll look for something made in this millenium, though. :oldfogey: Re: Seeking Mac laptop up to $400 - sekker - 08-17-2016 Something may be useful here. Add an SSD. http://www.gearxs.com/apple-clearance-event?src=eve-8-16 Re: Seeking Mac laptop up to $400 - Buzz - 08-17-2016 what a rare deal! I think I'll look for something made in this millennium, though... Hey, IIRC, it's from 2003, so it's in this millennium (barely), just not this decade. It was the 60GB OEM hard drive that made it rare. :-) sekker is probably on right track; there are plenty of 2009/10 C2D MBP's on eBay/CL for enough under $400 to allow for a SSD transplant, and possibly a RAM upgrade if needed (8GB min recommended). If she's looking for an i5/i7, maybe an early 11" MBA could be found under $400, but those are hard to upgrade. Good luck. == Found: Seeking Mac laptop up to $400 - lost in space - 08-17-2016 It's for my sister's friend, and they're two states away, so I wouldn't feel comfy recommending EB or CL,though I would buy from those places for myself. For some reason, though, I'd trust you guys! I think they found something, but thanks for tips and the link. looks like a good source.
