I think I asked this before but what does TC do? Sounds like Time Machine.

Time Machine is software, Time Capsule is hardware. TC is the normal Apple wireless router with a hard drive built in. It's convenient since you can set up Time Machine to wirelessly back-up your Mac.

In case of failure, the internal drive is replaceable and doesn't look too difficult to do, though I never have. This appears to be a good price since the Base Station alone usually sells for around $175.

Edited to talk about the replaceable drive.

How large a capacity internal drive can they take? My 2TB drive is full and I'd like to go higher like 6TB

I don't know, but the iFixit page showed them installing a 6TB.

Amazon is matching the same deal from Staples. I picked one up a couple of weeks ago.

Super silent operation; I never hear the backup drive spinning. But twice so far I've had the flashing amber light even though the internet connection is working perfectly. A reboot returns the light to a steady green. Odd.

One of its child processes went missing.

A flashing amber light means that it has a message for you if you check the Airport Utility.

Usually, it means that there's a new firmware update available.

In newer Time Capsules, it may indicate a failing hard drive.

This!

My AirPort Extreme started this flashing yellow light also, but it was NOT the from any of the explanations listed in the manual.
