Bumblebee ringtone - DaviDC. - 09-30-2006

Twice this week I've seen on TV kids with a ringtone on their phones that adults can't hear. Once it was refered to as a bumblebee ringtone. I did a Google search hoping to find something I could listen to because I want to see if I can hear it, but came up empty.

I know listening to anything on the crappy little rear-firing speakers on this MacBook will be limited, but I've got headphones.

I'm old and can hear it, irritating as hell.
Both my nephews can't hear it, both listen to their iPods at about 3000 decibels though!

Thanks guys! I played it through external speakers & could hear it if I turned my head just right. Three cats sat up & looked at me while it was playing.

Huh ? What ? Sorry, I didn't hear your call.
too much time near jet engines and other nasty military hardware.

I am now fondly recalling a 'distraction device' that I made in quantity in high school- a little handmade PCB with a 555 timer, piezo speaker, 9V battery, a few caps and a few resistors. It put out a 22KHz warble that was juuuuust above the audible range for most of my classmates, but would really annoy them. In testing, I got agressive responses about 75% of the time when the listener could not 'hear' the tone. It was an interesting physio-psyhological experiment.

And probably would have gotten me expelled, which is why I didn't turn it into a science fair project as originally planned.
